Dust to dust

I have some new powder-shoot images to show you.

Yesterday I did a photoshoot with dancer Sjoerd Wijn. The idea was to elaborate some more on the theme of powder and we came up with some beautiful images. See below for a detail of this photo.

A special thank you for Theater De Kom in Nieuwegein for letting us use their dance-studio.

Camouflage

Copenhagen skies.

I just returned from a trip to Copenhagen, Denmark.

Once in a while I like to pop in a picture I took with my smartphone, just to show you that you can also take cool pictures with one. I call it my smartphonology.

During a walk to dinner at our friends' place we passed one of the modern buildings just outside the old city centre where the cloudy sky wonderfully reflected in the glass facade. I love looking for exceptional views and angles and what could be better than this?

Tourism: taking 10 seconds.

When you reach the next small plaza take a moment to look at the view on your left out over the bay with all the pretty boats far below you.....

A touristic hotspot in Oia, Santorini. Make sure not to spend more than 10 seconds at each spot; you might miss out on seeing the other hotspots..... One of the most crowded places on Santorini becomes quite calm with a few photographic tricks.... Having the plaza completely empty was a bit too much for my taste, though.

Take me to church

A holiday picture from the beautiful island of Santorini. How can you not take lovely pictures here. Absolutely recommended if you want to see the best of Greece.

Portrait

In case you were wondering: I do 'regular' portraits, too....

This portrait is of Jim Strolenberg, a student at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten, Utrecht (HKU).

I was commissioned to take photographs of the yearly exam-exhibition of the students and take portraits of the participants.

I took this picture with only available light in the room we were in.

Chance may crown me

Improvising in between the video-takes. A picture I took of performer Paola Ghidini during our filming-session to get shots for a new video on the design of italian designer Corradino Garofalo. Paola is 'wearing'  a shiny metal collar made from the flexible objects Corradino Garofalo designed.

The video and pictures were taken at De Stilte in Breda and is now in post-production.

It's beginning to get to me

In this shot I only used natural daylight.

It's obvious, once I stop to think

The title is a quote from the movie "Ex machina", a masterful story about a possible (inevitable?) next step in evolution on this planet: robots with artificial intelligence. I consider this movie a must see; very intriguing.

Face off

Another improvised picture I took in between the video-takes during a video-production I did with performer Paolo Yao Kouadio, Paola Ghidini and italian designer Corradino Garofalo.

Sleight of hand

This is a shot of Paolo Yao Kouadio taken in between sessions of filming to get material for a new video. Once more the shiny metallic masks of italian designer Corradino Garofalo was subject matter and the talented performers Paola Ghidini and Paolo Yao Kouadio were so kind to interpret moods in movements. The video and pictures were taken at De Stilte in Breda and is now in post-production.

Stretch

Working with creative people is so much fun. The energy of ideas was sparkling during our photoshoot somewhere in the city of Breda.  Let's try this. Let's try that.

For the photoshoot I singled out a specific area near the city-centre and the objective was that the models/performers use the elements they saw and combined it with their passion: dance and conveying emotion. When we arrived at a new location I didn't have to ask 'what kind of images do you think we make with this'. They immediately started with their creative process. Very admirable.

This is one of the resulting images.

A photoshoot I did with the talented performers Davide Guarino, Paolo Yao Kouadio, Wiktoria Czakon and Donna Scholten. Photography-assistent during the shoot was my friend Andrew Greening.
