Wiktoria

Today I did a wonderful photoshoot with performers Davide Guarino, Paulo Yao Kouadio, Wiktoria Czakon, Donna Scholten and my photographer friend Andrew Greening.

In between the posed dance images we took, I took some great portraits. This is one them of Wiktoria Czakon.

Thanks everyone for a wonderful day!

More posts to follow soon.....

T.R.S.

I have been quite busy with my photography assignments for a few weeks, so hardly any time to keep up my blog. Which is actually a good sign.

Some time ago I did a photo/videoshoot together with performer Paolo Yao Kouadio. My previous post was a portrait of him. This is the video we produced. I hope you like it.

Remake

This weekend I did a great video/photoshoot with dancer Paolo Yao Kouadio. I will present the video here as soon as the editing is finished.

One of the images I had in mind is actually a remake of a picture I made together with Tomas. See below. I wanted to recreate the image replacing the bleached hair / light skin model with a bleached hair / dark skin model. You can compare the result with the initial picture below.

Instagram

Hello Instragrammers,

I have opened an account at Instagram. Pictures I post there will all be smartphonology, i.e. pictures I took with my celllphone and which I think are worth while showing. I promise not to post any pictures of kittens, or my new bicycle or what's on my plate for dinner.

Also good to know, perhaps, is that nothing on my Instagram-page will be posted on my website or on facebook. So maybe and hopefully you will find it worthwhile to check it out and follow, like and comment.....

Thank you!

Cutting edge

A quick portrait shot of my good friend Mario Mulder.  When I caught a glimpse of his taped shoulder due to an injury, I thought it would be a cool part of a picture like this. Mario is going through a rough spot in his life, so I guess this strong portrait portrays his resilience and dedication to come out of it a stronger person.

Cinesica (II)

Another "still" from a videoshoot I did last week with three dancers. The footage will be used by Italian designer Corradino Garofalo to present his design on the Ventura Lambrate Fair in Milano, Italy this month. The Ventura Lambrate Fair is part of the Milan Design Week 2015.

In between the video-takes I also did some photography. This is one of the photographs I took of a dance-sequence in which the design-object is presented. It might be included in the final video which will have its' premiere on the Venura Lambrate Fair. Once the video is available for publication, which will be after the Fair, I will add it to my blog.

Designer: Corradino Garofalo

Dancers: Davide Guarino, Paolo Yao Kouadio, Paola Ghidini

Photography/Light: Jos Kuklewski

Against me: solo for Miki

A choreography about individuality, something that has to do with our background. A duality and a contrast between the choreographer and the dancer.
Davide Guarino's new choreography for the Minor Maker 2 is ready.
Would be really nice that you all join this evening performance.

In the evening of April 10th, 2015 premiere of Davide Guarino's new choreography titled "Against me; solo for Miki". To be performed in Breda, Netherlands. If you have interest in seeing the premiere you can contact me (jos@jkimages.nl) for more information and reservations.

I am happy to have had the opportunity to do photography for Davide Guarino and Miki Tokubuchi.

Fun with fire

Last Friday evening I did another photoshoot with Tristan Bruin; playing with fire and long exposures at NDSM in Amsterdam. Because of the cold we did only a short photoshoot; after an hour my hands went quite numb....

Tristan Bruin is a performer/juggler. You can see Tristan performing in the video 'Tsunami' by DVBBS. & Borgeous which was a big hit a year or so ago. You can see more of Tristan and contact him through www.tristanbruin.com.

NDSM is a brilliant industrial location for a shoot like this with the sweet lights of the city centre of Amsterdam in the background.

Startas Orkester: faces

This is one of the results of a photoshoot with a young band called Startas Orkester.

The members of the band have diverse backgrounds (jazz, pop, classical, electronic music) thus creating a broad range of influences. Jazzheroes like Kurt Rosenwinkel and Henry Threadgill can be recognized, but Startas Orkester also finds inspiration in minimal music by Steve Reich and alternative rock of Radiohead. The band also uses live visuals when performing.

Startas Orkester are: Marit van der Lei, Marthe Lasthuis, Eliane Ardts, Freek Rijna, Jorrit Westerhof, Hidde Smedinga, Thijs van Gemert, Tijs Ham, Agnes Loonstra, Bart van Gemert.

Check out their facebookpage

An artist’s relation to his love life:
– An artist should avoid falling in love with another artist
– An artist should avoid falling in love with another artist
– An artist should avoid falling in love with another artist (Marina Abramovich)

Toegang vrij,  reserveren vereist. Voor meer informatie en reservering klik hier.

I had the pleasure of taking pictures of an adaptation of Anton Chekhov's play 'The Seagull' yesterday evening. Tonight is the try-out in Utrecht. The play is directed by Daan van Bendegem. You can follow the link above for more information (in Dutch).

Revka

This is a portrait from a fashionshoot I did last year together with hairstylist Angelo Giannaula, model Revka and make-up artist Felicia Williams. Browsing through the shots I made I thought this one is well worth posting. The dress is from Phintage in Amsterdam.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Sunday stroll

This is streetphotography as I like it: when everything falls in to their right place in a picture.

A sunny day in Venice, Italy. It had rained the night before, but the street is slowly drying in the winter sun. I was concentrating on a nice composition of the shadow the lamp post made along the street and over the wall. When along came 'the missing link' and in an instant I knew I needed to have the man in the picture too. I got one shot to get the picture right.....

Usually I am not for pictures where 'the horizon' is not straight, but here I think it adds to the image with all the other lines, straight and angled, playing their part in the whole.

Rock the boat

A lonesome gondola waiting for the tourist-season. No cars in the city of Venice, Italy. The boat is the way to go. Or your feet.

In the month of January the city is quite calm and quite devoid of tourists. Temperatures are low, however above freezing mostly. And foggy conditions are possible. In other words wonderful weather conditions for interesting photography. On top of that prices are low too. Prices are already on the rise at the moment as the city is 'waking up'. Reasons for me to offer a two-day photography workshop in Venice in the winter 2015/16. Check out my webpage for more information.

Go-Freestyle

Before I continue with some cool pictures I took in Venice, I thought I'd throw in a picture I made for an exciting group of 'freestylers', aptly called "Go-Freestyle".  Check out their website or their facebookpage.

This is Maarten van Luit in full control of the ball.

Find your mooring

Venice, Italy, like you've never seen before, I suppose. This is my take on views of the lagoon surrounding the city.

One of the advantages of getting up before dawn in Venice; getting wonderful pictures of breathing peace and tranquility out in the lagoon. The other advantage is the sublime soft light of dawn. This is another image in a series of abstracts I made during an intensive four days photography-trip to Venice, Italy.

This image is of guidance poles in the water for all the boats that move around on the lagoon. Attached to the poles is, what I would guess is a weatherstation of some sorts. Another long exposure.

My next post, I promise, will have some gondola's in the picture........ Finally......

Interested in buying an original print of my work? Many of my images are available. Every image is printed on high-quality paper by a professional company, will be signed by Jos Kuklewski and numbered. If you want a quote of the price, send an email to jos@jkimages.nl
